해먹으리(Hemogry) - Korean Corn Dog Recipe: Potatoes, Breadcrumbs, Ramen, Cornflakes
Learn how to make Korean corn dog with our beginner-friendly recipe using no yeast. In our improved Korean corn dog recipe, we've added lots of small hacks to stop the fillings from falling off and show you how to deep fry them evenly.
In our video, we show you how we made this cheesy Korean street food with different crusts toppings like panko breadcrumbs, potato chunks, crushed ramen and cornflakes. But you can also try them out with hot Cheetos, which is a nice spicy version.
🍴Batter ingredients
All-purpose flour
Baking powder
Egg
Milk
Sugar
📝 We don't use yeast in our recipe as it takes a while to leaven the dough and isn't as easy to work with for beginners. Instead, we use baking powder, which most people already have.
📝 If you want a gluten-free version of our recipe, you can try to substitute the all-purpose flour for rice flour. However, this will make the crust less crunchy to bite into.
🍴Ingredients for the fillings
Hot dog
Mozzarella cheese
📝 We use chicken sausages in our recipe to make our Korean corn dog halal, but you can also use other filling options like mozzarella cheese and boiled rice cakes to make a veg version. Other fillings we recommend you give it a try are string cheese, boiled potato chunks, beef sausages and fish cakes. For a satisfying cheese pull, you can stack a few mozzarella cheese blocks together.
Method 1 - Easy Korean corn dog recipe without yeast (Deep Frying)
🥣 Tools you’ll need for this method:
Pot
Wooden skewers or wooden chopsticks
Single chopstick
📝 We don't dip the skewers into the batter or roll them in the batter because this method can pull on the softer fillings like mozzarella cheese, causing them to fall or break off the skewer. We recommend only using these methods if you're confident with covering your skewered fillings in Korean corn dog batter quickly or if the fillings definitely won't fall off the wooden skewers.
Method 2 - Korean corn dog recipe air fryer version
🥣 Tools you’ll need for this method:
Air fryer - https://amzn.to/3Pa6D3d
Wooden skewers or wooden chopsticks
Single chopstick
📝 The air fryer version is slightly healthier than the deep-fried version as we are using a lot less oil. They still taste great, but here are some points to be aware of. However, it does mean that the crust is thicker and not as airy. In addition, as there's no oil to suspend the skewers in, the shape of these air-fried skewers will be a lot flatter compared to deep-fried.
