tteokbokki ❌ tteok-gnocchi ✅
Yes, I made a dish Asian again. And this one's a doozy~ 🥰 To me, gnocchi is one of those dishes that I would only order at a fancy Italian restaurant, and rarely have the skill or patience to make at home. So, why not use a readily available alternative, in the form of these Korean rice cakes!
Sure, its texturally a bit different from gnocchi (tteok is firmer with a slight chew), but when this cuts out a good 1 hour of cooking, mashing, and doughing out potatoes, it's a more-than-worthy alternative!
Protip: be sure to crisp up the tteok in the pan well and eat it while its still hot!
Also lemme leave you with a terrible joke: 떡떡, who's there? 🙃
Here's what you'll need to make this (serves 2):
500g tteok (stick-shaped, cut in half)
30ml (2 tbsp) neutral oil
10g (1 tbsp) water
30g (2 tbsp) unsalted butter
6-8 sage leaves, plus 2 more to deep-fry
zest of ½ a lemon
8ml (½ tbsp) lemon juice
10g (2 tsp) doenjang (mixed with 2 tbsp water)
2g salt
a generous shaving of parmesan
