Homemade Toffee Bits: 3 ingredients in about 30 min to take your baked goods to such an insanely delicious level. They make for a perfect homemade gift, too!
You’ll need:
- 1 stick (113g) unsalted American-style butter*
- 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt or table salt
Begin melting the butter in a heavy bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar and salt and whisk vigorously for one minute. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 295-300F and looks like melted peanut butter, about 8-10 min.
Carefully pour onto a rimmed parchment or silicone lined pan and quickly spread into a thin even layer. It hardens quickly, so have everything ready to go. Let harden and cool for about 20 min before breaking into small pieces using a mallet or rolling pin. This part is highly therapeutic.

*if using European style butter, add 1-2 tablespoons water to the melting butter.
